Dune buggy Dubai rentals on the Al Badayer red sand

Every dune buggy Dubai session we run lets you drive a Polaris RZR or a Can-Am Maverick X3 yourself, out on the red sand at Al Badayer with an instructor driving ahead. Prices start at AED 600 for the whole machine, and that one figure also pays for helmets, goggles, fuel and as much mineral water as you can drink.

Three buggies, one price per machine

Self drive dune buggy rental, guided from the front

Each session here is self drive. You hold the wheel, work the pedals and decide how hard to push on every climb. What you never do is head off alone: a trained instructor drives the lead vehicle, chooses the line through the sand and keeps the convoy moving at a speed the least confident driver in the group can handle.

That format is built for people who have never driven off-road. Every machine has an automatic gearbox, which leaves you with steering, throttle and brake and nothing else to think about. The riding area is private desert land rather than a public road, which is why no driving licence is required for any of the three buggies.

On the two-seat buggies, one person drives and the other rides along. Choose a 60 or 120 minute session and there is time to swap seats halfway, so both of you get a proper turn at the wheel.

2 seater or 4 seater: start with the head count

The quickest way to choose is to count who is coming. Two riders fit the 2 Seater Polaris RZR 1000cc or the Can-Am Maverick X3. Three or four riders fit the 4 Seater Polaris RZR 1000 CC, where one adult takes the wheel and as many as three passengers ride inside the same roll cage.

The bigger RZR uses the same 1000cc engine as the smaller one, set on a longer wheelbase. Parents tend to like it because the whole family shares one vehicle instead of splitting across two, and a full load brings the cost per rider down to the lowest figure of any buggy we offer.

  • Couple or two friends: the 2 seater RZR, or the X3 if you want more power
  • Family with children: the 4 seater, with a parent at the wheel
  • Three riders: the 4 seater still costs less per head than two small buggies
  • Four adults who all want to drive: two 2 seaters on a longer session, swapping seats

Polaris RZR vs Can-Am X3

Both Polaris models carry a 1000cc engine of about 110 horsepower, an automatic gearbox, a full roll cage and four-point harnesses. The RZR feels predictable and steady over bumps, and it forgives a new driver who gets the throttle a little wrong in soft sand. That is why we usually suggest it for a first ride.

Our 2 Seater Can-Am Maverick X3 tops the range for power. A turbocharged engine and a wider stance give it harder acceleration and more stability through faster turns, so riders with some off-road time behind them often go straight for it. Beginners can book it as well; the briefing simply spends extra time on throttle control and braking.

If the budget is what decides it, weigh minutes on the sand as well as horsepower. A first-time driver seldom uses everything the X3 can do in half an hour, so it is worth asking us for the longer RZR rates on WhatsApp before you settle on one.

Price per buggy and per rider

We charge for the machine, per buggy, not per seat, for a 30 minute session. AED 600 buys the 2 Seater Polaris RZR 1000cc for that half hour, AED 800 covers the 4 Seater Polaris RZR 1000 CC, while AED 999 gets you the 2 Seater Can-Am Maverick X3. Divide by the number of riders and the cost per head drops quickly, as the figures here show.

Each of those prices already pays for the instructor, a helmet and goggles for every seat, fuel, the pre-ride briefing and all the bottled water you want, so nothing is added for gear when you arrive. What sits outside the price: hotel pickup, a personal photo or video service, and tips, which are entirely optional.

The 60 and 120 minute sessions use the same buggies. Those rates are not published; send your date and group size on WhatsApp and we will price the longer options for your dune buggy Dubai booking.

  • 2 seater RZR shared by two riders: AED 300 each
  • 4 seater RZR with a full crew of four: AED 200 each
  • 4 seater RZR with three on board: about AED 267 each
  • Can-Am X3 shared by two riders: AED 499.50 each

The Al Badayer route and getting there

All our buggy sessions take place at Al Badayer, out past the city's south-eastern edge and a 45 to 60 minute drive from Downtown. The sand there is deep and ridged, with tall crests for photos and wide bowls between the dune chains where a convoy can spread out. Your guide shapes the loop to fit the length of your booking.

Most riders make their own way out by car or taxi. The precise meeting-point pin arrives in your written confirmation, and cars can park on site. Prefer a lift? We can add hotel pickup at an extra charge from JBR, Deira, Business Bay, Downtown and Dubai Marina; ask on WhatsApp for a transfer quote.

Our office at Lake Central Tower in Business Bay takes care of bookings and questions only. No ride starts from there, so on ride day head directly out to Al Badayer.

What to wear for a buggy ride

Dress for sun, heat and fine sand that gets everywhere. Helmets and goggles are handed out at check-in, so all you need to sort out is clothing and footwear.

  • Closed-toe shoes for every rider, because sandals slip off the pedals
  • Light, loose clothes you are happy to see covered in dust
  • High-SPF sunscreen and a pair of sunglasses
  • A light jacket if you ride on a winter evening
  • No loose scarves, and a zipped pocket to keep your phone safe

Safety on every session

Before an engine starts, our crew checks every helmet and every harness. Helmets are mandatory for all riders, closed shoes are required in every seat, and the buggies are checked and serviced before each tour goes out.

The safety briefing usually lasts 10 to 15 minutes. It covers the pedals, how the harness should sit, the hand signals your guide uses, convoy spacing and what to do if the buggy stops on a slope. Once you are moving, keep your gap behind the lead buggy and watch for the guide's signals.

A dune ride is bumpy by nature. If you are pregnant, have had an operation recently, or live with a bad back or a sore neck, please skip this activity.

Ages: who can drive and who can ride

Drivers must be adults and should bring photo ID, and there is a short liability form to sign when you check in. Children can come along as passengers if they are big enough to stay secure in a seatbelt and helmet, which is a big part of why families pick the 4 seater.

Passenger rules vary by buggy and by seat, so message the ages of your riders on WhatsApp first and we will tell you the seating that works. Children aged 5 to 11 who want their own handlebars have the COBRA Single Seater Quad Bike, which runs inside a fenced area and costs AED 200 a rider for half an hour. Our quad biking page has the full picture.

Best time to ride and when to book

Sessions start as early as 5 AM and finish by 8 PM, seven days a week. The cooler months from October to April are the busiest, with afternoon highs somewhere around 24 to 33°C. Between May and September, avoid the midday hours; in July and August, we suggest riding between 5 and 8 in the morning. Set aside about an hour and a half at the desert for a half-hour drive.

For photos, aim for the hour just after the sun comes up, or the final hour and a half before it sets. Sunset slots are the first to go, especially on Fridays and Saturdays.

Normal dates need only 24 to 48 hours of warning. Around UAE public holidays, and on weekends in December or January, give us 4 to 7 days. Hoping to ride today? Send a WhatsApp before midday and an afternoon slot is usually possible.

Booking your buggy slot

Pick a buggy and a time, then pay securely online by card in AED. The advance payment locks in your slot, and an emailed confirmation follows listing the date, start time and meeting pin. Rather talk it through? WhatsApp us on +971 52 440 9525 and we will set up your dune buggy Dubai ride with you.

Plans change, and that is fine. Moving your date costs nothing as long as you give reasonable notice. When rain, a sandstorm or other bad weather makes riding unsafe, we call the session off ourselves; you then pick another date free of charge or request a refund in line with our cancellation policy.

Want the longer read first? Our dune buggy rental guide goes deeper on costs, timing and driving tips. You can also pair a morning drive with an evening desert safari for a full day out.

Questions, answered

Dune buggies: FAQ

Can I drive the dune buggy myself?

Yes. Every session is self drive: you steer and control the speed while a trained instructor leads the convoy and picks the route. The buggies are automatic, with no clutch or gears, and the riding area is private desert terrain, so you do not need a driving licence. The person at the wheel must be an adult carrying photo ID.

Is the price for the buggy or for each person?

It is for the buggy. For a 30 minute session you pay AED 600 for the two-seat RZR, AED 800 for the four-seat RZR and AED 999 for the turbocharged Can-Am, however many of the seats you fill. With four people sharing the bigger RZR, that works out at AED 200 a rider.

Which buggy is best for a first-time driver?

The Polaris RZR suits most first-timers. Its 1000cc automatic engine pulls well but stays predictable, and it forgives small throttle mistakes in soft sand. Pick the two-seat version for a couple or the four-seat one for a family. The Can-Am X3 is open to beginners too, though its turbo power shines more for drivers with some off-road experience.

Can the two of us take turns driving?

Yes, on a 60 or 120 minute session. In the two-seat buggies one person drives while the other rides, and the longer bookings leave enough time to change seats so you both get a go. Only the 30 minute rate is published, so check the longer prices with us on WhatsApp for your date.

How long should we plan to spend at Al Badayer?

Budget around 90 minutes at the meeting point for a 30 minute drive, and more for the 60 or 120 minute sessions. That covers check-in, the liability form, fitting helmets and goggles, a briefing of 10 to 15 minutes, the ride and a photo stop. Add 45 to 60 minutes each way for the road from Downtown Dubai.

Do you collect riders from their hotel?

We can, for an extra charge. Transfers are kept separate from the buggy price, and we arrange them from Downtown, Dubai Marina, JBR, Deira and Business Bay on request. Send your hotel name on WhatsApp for a quote. Most riders simply drive out or catch a taxi, following the location pin included with their booking confirmation.

Can children come on a buggy ride?

Children can ride as passengers with an adult driver, as long as they can sit securely with the seatbelt and helmet on. The 4 seater lets a whole family share one buggy. Tell us the ages on WhatsApp before booking and we will confirm the seating. Kids aged 5 to 11 can also ride their own small quad in a fenced area.

What happens if the weather turns bad?

If a sandstorm, rain or other bad weather stops your session, we call it off from our end. You can then rebook for another day without paying more, or have the money returned on the terms of the cancellation policy. Separately, you can move your own booking for free with reasonable notice, subject to availability on the new day.
